With singles released over the past few years, “Heartstrings” and “Where’s That Guy?,” Canadian pop country artist Ella Hartt has started to carve out her unique music path as she introduced listeners to her modern kissed style, solidly written lyrics, and crisp, clean vocals that know all the proper ways to wrap themselves into each line of the song and elevate the words to the forefront of the catchy melodies.

As with any independent act, though, finding fresh new ways to always be leveling up your sound is how you’ll catch the sought-after buzz that’s necessary for moving ahead with leaps - instead of small strides -  as you step into your next chapters.

Harrt has absolutely accomplished that with her newest single, “The Story You Tell Yourself.”

The catchy, mid-tempo driven pop country song not only grabs your attention as the beat drops and the simplicity of the accompanying instrumentation engulfs you, but the moment that Hartt slides her voice over the top of it, you immediately sense that she’s really honed in on her overall sound to pull out all the strongest parts of it and deliver them in one, three-minute piece.

But as solid as all those signature attributes are, it’s the positive, uplifting lyrics that will make this one a surefire hit.

Hartt cleverly places the focus on herself with each of the verses, but also uses the wording to invoke our own internal feelings on very topical issues by singing about things such as if people could accept it if she took off her makeup and let her roots show, and then in the second verse furthering that thought by actually posting a no makeup pic on social media.

However, with one bold line that starts off the chorus, “Excuse me, can I get your attention?” she not only perks our ears, but runs through a list that encourages us to by our unique selves and to know that it’s enough regardless of all the insecurities that people try to instill in you:

No matter how you’re feeling, you’re enough

You’re strong, you’re brave, you’re beautiful

You’re one of a kind like no one else

The story you tell yourself.”

This much needed, very poignant message wraps itself into a modern infused country style that makes you listen, while Harrt puts her caring shoulder out there for you to lean on as you begin to fight the negative feelings to embrace all the positives about who you are.
