ACM New Female Artist of the Year Nominee Kylie Morgan has once again struck a chord in the hearts and minds of her fans and the country music mainstream with the release of a new song.  The sentimental tune was released days ahead of Mother’s Day, bearing tribute to one of Kylie’s biggest fans and chief influences.  “Scratchin’ The Surface (Mama’s Song)” is now available digitally and on all streaming platforms via EMI Nashville.

In the midst of a career-altering stretch for the Oklahoma native that has been highlighted by some of the high-energy, fun-loving lyrical explorations of the past couple of years, Morgan slows things down and offers a vulnerable, sentimental, and beautifully curated ode to the bond between a mother and a daughter.  Written by Kylie, the song showcases the feelings of gratitude and hope, from a daughter to a mother, and highlights the sacrifices made from parent to child throughout the years.

“I wrote this song as a sense of hope for my mama.  She is newly an empty nester with my baby sister going off to college and I felt the sense of her feeling like her purpose was now in her past,” Kylie said.  “After sharing it on social media, it turns out millions of mamas and daughters felt the same way, which moved this song to the front of the line when it came to my next release.”

Simply put, this track is beautiful.  The free-flowing, carefully-calculated melody invites us, the listeners, to bequeath our emotional partitions and invite our emotionally-exposed imaginations while the lyrics stunningly articulate the song’s story and message.

Before sharing the song on social media, Kylie surprised her mom by singing it live with her sister on stage.  The overwhelming response from fans and followers to the song online, Kylie decided to formally release it to the masses, which is sure to take its potential to a whole new level.

“Scratchin’ The Surface” follows “Two Night Stands,” an autobiographical tale of her relationship with fellow country artist Jay Allen, as well as “Making It Up As I Go,” “A Few Hearts Ago,” and “Sugar Daddy,” among others that have propelled her career into one of the brightest young stars in country music.

The talented songstress is in the midst of her nationwide headlining “Making It Up As I Go” Tour, and will be joining Walker Hayes on his “Same Drunk Tour” this summer.
