With the fan favorite “No Can Do” flaring a summertime anthem for Restless Road over the past few months, they now skillfully segway into the cusp of the arrival of college football with their end of summer heartbreaker, “Roll Tide Roll.”

Setting the beachside tone from the onset of the song, the layered sounds of waves crashing and seagulls chirping over the softness of the intro provides the atmospheric tone to encompass the lyric as they begin weaving us through the story of crushing, falling, and ultimately landing heartbroken and alone on a beachside vacation originally scheduled for two.

As the song title suggests, the lyrics certainly do pull from the University of Alabama lore and fuse specific nods to the SEC giant into the song with lines such as “the sunsets burning crimson,” “Every beer and every beach bar taste like a Tuscaloosa Friday night,” and of course, the hook of “Roll Toll Tide,” but this is anything but another college football infused love story type of song like last fall seemed to continually deliver.

Providing another stellar showcase for their impressive signature harmonies, they lift the chorus to fully embody the hurt and pain that arrives with being on a solo beachside vacation that should have been with her, all in a failed effort to try and put the heartbreak behind him.

Cleverly sliding between him watching the waves in Mexico crash into the shore while crying out that he doesn’t want to miss her anymore, with that of the popular rally cry of the Crimson Tide, they sing:

“Roll tide roll
Wash the pain right out my soul
I don’t wanna miss her no more
But I can’t help it
‘Cause I got Bama on my mind
Even here in Mexico, oh why
Oh why, did my roll tide roll”

With each new song released by Restless Road, there’s a new layer that shines the bright spotlight on their unbridled expertise as vocalists and songwriters. “Roll Tide Roll,” though, really places a noticeable emphasis on their craftiness in putting together a memorable composition that’s surrounded with perfect phrasing to pull in the listener while also masterfully hitting a somber, relatable topic of struggling to move on from heartbreak.
