If there is one thing we know about Miranda Lambert, it is that she loves to keep her fans (and the rest of the music world) guessing what she is going to do next.  Over the years, she has diversified her musical approach from that of the country music badass to an emotional singer-songwriter unafraid to tackle any topic, to now, a critically-acclaimed songstress who is collaborating with artists of all genres and disciplines.  All in all, we are witnessing an evolutionary artist with an expanding musical catalogue that is putting her in a category all her own.

“If You Were Mine” is a beautifully crafted musical ballad of unrequited love.  Produced by Jon Randall, the song is a captivating duet featuring Lambert as well as retro-soul singer, and fellow Texan, Leon Bridges.  The song is available everywhere now via Vanner Records.

Having announced in March that she was leaving her long-time label home, Sony Music Nashville, in an effort to stretch her creativity, Lambert has released a song that represents a venture to new territory, even for her.  Co-written by Lambert along with Ashley Monroe and Jesse Frasure, the tune was penned with the hope of Leon lending his distinct style and vocal delivery to the project.

The result is a truly unique musical portrayal of the complicated thoughts, feelings and emotions invoked by the love for another.  The musical chemistry between Lambert and Bridges is incredibly evident, and the straightforwardness of the song’s production, melody, and lyrical approach seems timeless.

There are a number of reasons that Lambert has established herself as one of the most respected and celebrated artists in this generation of country music.  At the top of that list, no doubt, is the storytelling nature of her songwriting and its ability to encapsulate those feelings and emotions from listeners of all personalities and of all backgrounds and disciplines.

“If You Were Mine” is a poetic ode to another that unapologetically professes a hypothetical promise to love and honor someone.  The lyrics are cleverly written and beautifully delivered, offering a heartfelt tribute while also invoking an elegiac and melancholic feel.

“I’d make sure your stars are shining

Sure as the Frio’s winding

I’d bottle you up like lightning

I’d rope the moon for you

A million times

That’s what I’d do

If you were mine”

If this new song is any indication, it appears as though Lambert is poised to take her fans through another tour of her musical sophistication and evolution.  Her last album, the GRAMMY-nominated ‘Palomino’, enjoyed well-deserved critical acclaim and renowned admiration amongst fellow artists and fans alike.  With new music out to the masses and seemingly more to come, as well as being declared a New York Times best-selling author for her debut book, “Y’all Eat Yet?” and her Velvet Rodeo Last Vegas residency set to resume in July, the sky is the limit for Miranda Lambert, who looks as though she is ready to take the world by storm…again.
