The first line of Kameron Marlowe’s biography reads “Three chords and the truth”.  The phrase is the most famous reference to the foundation of country music.  And yet, that frame of mind and approach to songwriting has seemingly fallen by the waste side for the droves of new artists in the most popular genre in the nation.

But for this Columbia Records Nashville artist, it has always been his approach to making music, introducing a modern take on his traditional style.  Since the release of his ‘We Were Cowboys’ debut album, the reception has been overwhelming, which promises to be the case as he offers his brand-new single, “I Can Lie (The Truth Is)”.

This is a throwback track, encompassing the fiddle and pedal steel to take listeners on a trip somewhere in between traditional 90’s and mid 2000’s, with Marlowe’s vocals taking over to push the song over the top.  From the lyrical subject matter to the deep twang of Kameron’s delivery, this tune incorporates all of the elements of a classic country song, collectively presenting as one of the standout tracks of the year thus far.

Focusing on life, love, and heartbreak, the song describes the internal emotional dilemma you feel when finding yourself in a toxic relationship that needs to end but you don’t know how to walk away.  The bad times outweigh the good, but being able to take the step of changing your life can be overwhelming, and so you continue to lie to the other person, and also to yourself.

“I can lie down beside you with nothin’ but leavin’ on my mind

Somehow I can love you and hate you at the same damn time

How can somethin’ so wrong, feel so good, and feel so right?

So when I promise you forever the truth is, I can lie”

And while it is his natural approach to songwriting, Kameron is being deliberate and upfront about his intentions for this song.

“When people hear it, I want them to be taken back in time to the 1970s when western outlaw country was taking over”, he shared.

With the classic country vibe paired with the lyrical storytelling voiced through throwback twangy delivery, this song checks all the boxes for a timeless track that will resonate with fans of traditional and modern country, and everyone in between.

In addition to introducing the world to his brand-new music, Kameron is on the road and will be throughout the summer and fall, intertwining headlining gigs and appearances at some of the country’s biggest festivals with opening slots on runs with the likes of Dierks Bentley and Luke Bryan.
