I love when I go out to cover a show for an artist, and then one of the opening acts hits the stage, captures my full attention, and pulls me into their music. That’s exactly what happened the first time I heard RT Johnson – and I needed to hear more!

One week later, I got more!

On his brand-new single, “Feel Good Again,” RT Johnson hits the sweet spot with an up-tempo melody that’s reminiscent of that crisp 2010-era country sound, with just enough of a modern splash infused into it so that it never comes across as being out of touch with today’s country radio.

Johnson utilizes his vocal ability to convey all the proper emotions of the picture painting lyrics that anyone who is moving on and getting over someone can relate to.

The verses are used to describe all things that have changed in his behaviors and feelings since the breakup: no longer being afraid of hearing a certain song on the radio, not slowing down when he drives past her house, how his heart doesn’t skip a beat when he smells her perfume, etc…

But this is all designed to bring you the chorus where Johnson hits the listener with that feel-good punch as he perfectly describes that “I finally moved on from it” feeling that you never thought you’d get to, before unraveling the stellar hook of, “now it just feels good to feel good again.”

This “moving on” song is great as it is, but Johnson masterfully brings it to the next level during the bridge where he gives the listener a shot of very forward-thinking encouragement through the line, “there’s bound to come a new beginning.”

When it comes to country music and who it’s next breakout stars will be, there are a lot of factors that come into play with that. However, RT Johnson is clearly on a mission to prove with “Feel Good Again” why his name needs to be in that mix!
