Nashville’s music community strongly walks the lines of the many different facets within it, giving us a heaping helping of artists, instrumentalists, and the songwriters who are the true lifeblood to the heartbeat of the city.

Montana raised/Nashville residing songwriting extraordinaire Nicole Croteau has lived every bit of the age-old definition of this being a ten-year town, using her wisdom within the songwriting department to pen songs for some of the scene’s hottest emerging talent including Charly Reynolds, Taylor Austin Dye, Emily Ann Roberts, Hayden Coffman, Carolyn Miller, and Roman Alexander.

Ten years later, and Nicole Croteau is stepping out from being just the one behind the pen and paper to shine in the artist spotlight with the release of her new single, “Something I Would Do.”

Her cowgirl fueled anthem comes out the gate swinging with two-steppin’ flavor and confident sass as she leans into an insatiably appealing Friday night honky-tonk rhythm that’s perfect for igniting sawdust covered hardwoods with the sweet sound of boot heels clicking.

Prepping for a night on the town, Croteau paints the scene perfectly throughout the opening verse with the mention of pulling her Wrangler jeans out the closet, slipping on her favorite boots, and catching a cab to the same dive bar she inhabited last week where she let a guy hold her hand and sparks began to swirl.

Slapping the chorus, she flirtatiously bounces her voice through the natural teasing that’s embedded into the lyrics, punching an unexpected, hip shimmying melody shift into a quick two-step midway through that’s perfectly built for a couples to slide around the dance floor perimeter while singles circl the middle:

“That sounds like something I would do

Let you spin me round this old saloon

Baby, let you lead me to the bar buy me 90 proof

Lean in and kiss me maybe way too soon

Hell, I might even fall in love with you

That sounds like something I would do”

Croteau sings directly at that lust interest we heard about the opening verse as the song progresses, wearing her vibrant personality on her sleeve as she lays it all out on the line, admitting that she could take him home to mama and show him around her town while also holding her own when she swerves any fling type of idea to declare, “just so you know babe… I’m all or nothing.”

“Something I Would Do” is a playfully fun and flirty snapshot of who Nicole Croteau is, not only as a songwriter but also as a gifted artist who understands the foundations of country music quite well as is evident in the traditional flare of the instrumentation that recalls the era when places like Gilley’s ruled the Friday night honky-tonk crowd.
