“Wild As Her” certainly became the breakout hit for hot rising country star Corey Kent, making him a household name through heavy rotation at radio and high impact on the Mediabase Airplay Chart.

However, it’s been songs such as “Better Now,” “How You Know You Made It,” and “Man of the House” that have all worked together to really give us the full spectrum view into who Kent is as an artist, teetering on genre lines, blurring them often while still holding tightly to the core ideals that are the definition of country music.

His newest effort, “Something’s Gonna Kill Me,” continues to flavor his ultra-modern country tilt with rock influences as he fully encompasses the vibe of the risk-taking lyric through perfect instrumentation that surrounds you and strikes your senses to allow him to boldly deliver the strong message to receptive ears.

The driving rhythm of the pacing in the intro quickly grabs hold of you as it steadily builds to the push of the verse, where Kent then slides in with specific descriptions of the different things he’s done and seen, such as a California sunset burning from orange to gold, selling his soul to rock-n-roll on the back of a pawn shop guitar, etc. Something he also does during the second verse when he sings of breaking a hundred miles per hour while out on a motorcycle ride.

But at the heart of this rock induced country vibed song is a much deeper message that speaks directly to the fact that life is short, so we better get to living!

Kent leans on several incredibly well-written lines throughout the song to deliver the power pack of that very thought, when he encouragingly reaches through the speakers:

“I want to say I’ve done it all by the time it’s time to go”

“The devil’s always on my heels, but I keep him on his toes”

And the amazing hook, “If something’s gonna kill me, might as well be what makes me feel alive”

As he winds into the final chorus, a fist pumping bounce arrives through a slight switch-up of melody that will absolutely have you screaming along with the lyrics as they sink into your being and you begin to believe them within’ your own  life, before he scales it all back into the outro to tie the entire message into one major piece of the overall puzzle, “I’ve made my peace with God, I ain’t afraid to die.”

Corey Kent has absolutely found his way to major radio play over the past year, which has of course rocketed his entire career, but it’s these song releases that are merely acting as teasers of things still to come that are truly reaching through the speakers to grab hold of the hearts of those who need a song to come in and act like that longtime friend who offers sage advice and a shoulder to lean on.
