HEARTLAND - No Tomorrow - Yellowhammer Records

2006 was a vastly different landscape for country music when compared to today. There were still elements built on the traditions of the genre embedded into each song, while flashes of Southern rock, pop, and an edgier drive were only starting to make their way in.

That mid-2000’s era was also known for its incredible wedding songs that were perfectly built for a daddy/daughter dance, and who could forget one of the biggest hits of that kind…Heartland’s platinum smash, “I Loved Her First.”

While the ACM and CMA nominated group has experienced the ups and downs of the business since then, they’ve seemingly put the pieces of the puzzle back together to re-emerge today with a new lead vocalist in Lance Horton and a very much-needed song for right now with “No Tomorrow,” co-written by Brett Beavers, Adam Sanders, and Jordan Schmidt.

In the fast-paced, overly tense world of today, it seems that we’re absolutely in need of a bold reminder of why we need to live in the moment with appreciation.

That tick tock keeps on ticking around the clock” and “while I'm living and I'm able, ain't gonna leave nothing left on the table,” are just two of the stand-out lines that leap out the speakers as Horton’s vocals wrap pure honesty around the soft mid-tempo retrospective that sees him musing on the “one day’s” of his future through each of the verses:

“One day, I wanna be front porch sittin' with no regrets”

“One day, I want to look back thinkin' man those were the good days”

“One day, might be a little less kick drum and a lot more six string”

With a firm re-introduction to their sound and Horton’s fresh vocals set in place, their crisp signature harmonies soar in the chorus as they punch into the how-to aspect of living in the here and now before there’s no tomorrow’s left, declaring:

“Till then I'm gonna turn it up louder

Ain't gonna be afraid to fly

Gonna love a little harder, raise em up higher

Burn the tires set fire to every mile

That tick tock keeps on ticking around the clock

When it's gonna stop only the good lord knows

One day there won't be no tomorrow”

Country music is in a place of some transition right now. The genre certainly has plenty of party going melodies, love ballads, and anthems to get your fist pumping with feel good beats. However, it also has several songs that are very poignant with their messages of hope, inspiration, and getting back to what matters most. Heartland delivers on the latter with “No Tomorrow,” setting themselves up for strong impact at country radio that intriguingly motivates you to change your thinking and get back to what it means to be truly living.
