JAKE DAVEY - Made - RTC Records

Certainly not a stranger to the country music lovers in his homeland of Australia, Jake Davey, a top 10 finalist in the 2022 Toyota Star Maker competition, has been making plenty of noise with recent, hot single releases, “Good Thing” and “Count On A Country Song.”

But just as the versatile singer/songwriter was holding strong footing on the foundations of his next chapter, his spinal stenosis flared up and presented him with the most challenging time of his life as the post spinal surgery has left him with a loss of feeling and function in his lower half with no timeline of recovery.

However, amid this extremely challenging moment, Davey has kept a positive attitude and fully embraced the idea of being a light for the rest of us through his brand-new single, “Made.”

The song, co-written by Jake with Elysse Yulo and Michael August, instantly delivers a memorably catchy sway along backbeat that borrows its ideals from pop music and smashes directly into his modern country fusion, igniting your shoulders to start bouncing and your head to begin bobbing as he drops his crisp, clean vocal into the honesty of the lyrics, praising his better half in such a crafty way that it transcends relationship status to remind us to appreciate all the days we’re given.

Girl, I love the way I feel right now, I’ve got more lucky stars than I can count,” sings the opening lines of the song as Davey uses comparatives throughout the verses to try and describe this overwhelming satisfaction that he’s now feeling as he paints relatable pictures:

“Like windows down catching all green lights”

“Like cashing in a winning ticket; one payday for life”

However, underneath these clever descriptives sits an underlying appreciation in the trust-filled knowing that everything is going to be alright no matter what’s coming his way, as we see when he strikes the chorus with a knowing attitude of gratitude on lines such as the hook, “even when the hardest days keep coming my way, I’ve got it made!”

We all have moments in our lives that shake us and do their best to break us, but Jake Davey slides in with a heartfelt reminder that as long as you’re on this side if the dirt, you can always find something to hold onto that keeps it all in check and tells you that you’re doing just fine; a poignant message that so many of us need right now, including Davey himself.

The staff at Today’s Country Magazine sends up a prayer for a speedy recovery and a hopeful get well soon to Jake Davey!
