A THOUSAND HORSES - Highway Sound - Independent Release

Country rock outfit A Thousand Horses released their debut single, “Smoke,” in June 2015, becoming the first group to reach #1 with a debut single on the Country Airplay charts in 2010s.  ‘Southernality,’ the trio’s first record, climbed to No. 3 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, which also featured the Top 40 hit “(This Ain’t No) Drunk Dial.”

Over the years since their formal introduction to the mainstream country music world, the ebbs and flows of a music career have led the Nashville-based band to the release of a new tune here in 2023, symbolling representing the birth of a new chapter.

“Highway Sound” is a hard-rocking, upbeat sing-along anthem to its core, incorporating elements of southern rock, classic country, and Americana to form a truly unique sound we have come to know and love from A Thousand Horses over the years.

Written by members Michael Hobby, Bill Satcher, and Graham DeLoach, along with Zachary Stephen Brown, the song’s conception materialized naturally and organically from a group of musicians exploring musical creativity.

“’Highway Sound’ started with the guys playing guitar out on the porch,” Hobby shared.  “I was inside and heard this bad-ass riff, and it hit me right away.”

The harmonica-infused introduction supporting a steady drum beat immediately gets the toes tapping and the head bobbing, before breaking into the natural and undeniable sing-along anthemic vocal delivery of the fun, welcoming lyrics.

“Midnight stars remind me of

A girl in Tennessee

Our secrets that we shared

And we both swore that we would keep

Though it might sound crazy

When I look up, I believe

That in the end we all end up

Right where we’re meant to be”

Unique and original musical arrangements by instrumentation that often gets lost and forgotten in today’s country music mainstream efforts puts this song on another level.  This is a group of gifted instrumentalists and musicians that makes music truly for the love of the craft.  Their passion, enthusiasm, and talent shine through on every strum, key, and note.  This is an easy group to cheer for, appreciate, and admire.

Based on what we have heard from the band, “Highway Sound” will be the first of a lot of new music on the horizon.  They will be on the road with Warren Zeiders this fall, hitting 24 dates across the country through November.  It has been far too long since we’ve been able to talk about upcoming new music from A Thousand Horses, and we at TCM can’t wait to hear more!
