STEPHANIE RYANN - In My Bones - Independent Release

Using each song release to continually build her highly respected reputation, singer/songwriter Stephanie Ryann has grabbed 2023 as a year to hone in on her defining characteristics, exploring her natural grittiness and transparency within her vulnerabilities.

She kicked off the year with the edgy, raw, and autobiographical “Wild Thing,” followed it with the heart tugging vulnerability of “Redbirds,” and now returns with her brand-new single, “In My Blood.”

Pushing ideals from a dusty Americana vibe into her modern country swerve, this road map sees Ryann leaning back into that grittier side as she flips her diary to a page of self-discovering how her vagabond heart needs the open road.

The sun sets over Tennessee…the highway’s calling out to me like an old familiar friend calling me home,” she sings as the song opens, expertly allowing the deeper tones embedded into the natural aura of her voice to strike the right notes, holding the listener in the spirit of the lyric as she places us in the passenger seat right next to her while she searches for advice on the FM radio dial with the pedal pressed to the floor.

The western kissed style in the chorus grips the flare of lyric perfectly as Ryann lifts her vocals to punch the moment of realization that tells her she’s exactly where she’s supposed to be when she’s out on the open road because that’s just who she is through and through:

“Like a tumbleweed in the western wind

Like a vagabond always wandering

Just looking for some place I can’t be found

The engine hums like an old six string

Out of tune but it makes me think

How nothing feels as good as getting out

It’s a damn good feeling to run these roads

It’s in my blood, it’s in my bones”

Cleverly, in storytelling type of fashion, the second verse advances the entire story as night falls upon her, embracing her spirit as she comparatively sings of herself and the nighttime sky, “the darkness is just something we both share,” while painting the picture of the traveler’s soul listening to the cricket choir singing the soothing hymn they need.

Stephanie Ryann is absolutely putting in the work to take her career to next level success. However, and perhaps even more importantly, we the listeners are gifted with her open book approach to this newest crop of songs as she continues to discover more about who she is. “In My Blood” acts as a second chapter of her autobiographical songs this year, giving us our next intriguing layer to strongly connect with note by note.
