Platinum country music superstar Brett Eldredge is back with a new song that actually isn’t new at all.  To celebrate the release his 2013 record, ‘Bring You Back,’ with a 10-Year Anniversary Edition, the Warner Music Nashville recording artist released “Adios Old Friend” – available now digitally as well as on all streaming platforms.

Written by Eldredge along with Jon Randall, the song was recorded for the original album in 2013 but was never released.  Now, having already cemented himself as one the standout vocalists of this generation, Brett is putting his trademark vocals and music style on full display with this throwback tune.

Lyrically, this song represents everything we have come to know, love, and expect from an Eldredge-penned tune, with its use of imagery and poetic inferences telling a story we never knew we wanted to hear.  Having been written at a time when country music was being bombarded by the likes of pop-infused simple sing-along tracks, “Adios Old Friend” pays homage to the honest, innovative, and original nature of Brett as a singer and as a songwriter.

“Outside these bars

I hear that mission bell

That hangman waits

To send me straight to hell

Well this ain’t where I thought

Our trail would end

Adios old friend”

And while the song was not released during the album’s first run at the country music masses, Eldredge has reached a point in his career when now has the freedom to put out music about which he feels the most passionate and of which he is the proudest.  “Adios Old Friend” is an ode to the songwriter he was at the beginning of his major label career, but the choice to release this tune now may also give us a glimpse as to what we can expect from him going forward.  Only time will well…but for now, we, as fans, should appreciate the honesty and musical integrity of this tune, one that perhaps goes against the grain of recent mainstream country releases, but is a masterfully written and dynamically delivered piece of music.

Serving as Eldredge’s debut album, ‘Bring You Back’ included three number one singles including “Don’t Ya,” “Beat of the Music,” and “Mean To Me.”  Since his debut, he has charted seven No. 1 singles at radio, nine Gold and Platinum-certified singles, as well as two Gold-certified albums.  He has tallied multiple CMA, ACM, and CMT Music nominations and wins, while establishing himself as one of the more gifted vocalists and entertainers in the genre of the past decade.

His fifth studio album, ‘Songs About You,’ was released in June 2022, which included standout singles “Holy Water” and “Want That Back,” as well as the record’s title track.
