When July Moon hit out the gate earlier this year with their debut single “Champagne Plans,” the trio immediately perked ears with their stellar, layered harmonies and catchy melodic output, creating an instant buzz as the pulled as much influence from modern branded country as they did the vocal group sound of 70’s classic rock.

With their incredible cover of Tyler Childers’ “Whitehouse Road” and a sampling of things still to come with “You Think You Know Someone,” they held their newfound fan base in the palm of their hands, expertly hyping excitement for the moment that they’ve now arrived at with their newest official single release, “Someone Like Me.”

The additively vibey song, written by the trio with AJ Pruis and Liz Rose and which they performed at band member Piper Bateman’s wedding earlier this year, places her vocal in the lead position as she praises her better half’s patience and loving heart while facing the truth of her own mirror, singing knowingly of her independent streak and how he tamed it.

With an insatiable throwback aura swirling within the floaty blend of their voices over the intro, they glide into the opening verse on the back of a driving rhythmic beat as Bateman begins to run a list of attributes that define her loner, independent spirit, singing of being the girl at the party that nobody knows and that she’s a hard-earned, reckless lesson that will keep him guessing at every turn; something she also does in the bridge when she sings of being the type who isn’t afraid to fight.

However, she swerves these self-reflective warnings to place pure focus on her better half, who has taken her just as she is, when she sings “but you don’t seem to mind” just before punching the chorus:

“Only someone like you could love someone like me

Cause you gotta be wild to hold something this free

Babe, I’m a risk and I never do this

But it only took one kiss to see

Only someone like you could love someone like me”

Showering him with praises in the second verse adds an essence to the lyrical dynamic that metaphorically asks, “pinch me, am I dreaming?” when she sings through the different ways that he’s the exact opposite from her in specific situations, but the everything that she needs to complete her:

“You’re the cool in the calm in the eye of the hurricane

In a room always filled with chameleons you’d never change

Oh, you’re steady as a rock, you’re everything I’m not”

With such an ultra-personal touch to this song, there’s an embedded spirit that arrives fluidly in the natural feel of the performance, while July Moon expertly reaches through the speakers to shine a bright spotlight on the patience and heartfelt love that it takes to be the one holding tightly to the dream chaser; perfectly embodying the idea of getting through the ups and the downs together as the truest foundation to cementing a solid marriage.
