Ever since their debut album was released in 2019, country foursome King Calaway has been garnering themselves as a true force in the genre with catchy wordplay, sophisticated musical arrangements, and infectious melodies.  As the band gears up for the release of their first full length record in nearly four years, they have dropped their latest tune to the masses…and it’s a good one.

“The Other Half” – written by guitarist and co lead vocalist Chad Jervis along with Phil Barton and Seth Mosley – is available now digitally and on all streaming platforms via Stoney Creek Records.

During their impressive rise through the ranks of promising acts in the genre, King Calaway has been able to captivate listeners with a blend of their musical influences alongside elements of other genres.  Their modern approach to traditionally relatable topics is one of their most complimentary qualities, and that trend continues with “The Other Half” as the group breaks down the emotional turmoil that surrounds us after a relationship ends.

The tune tells the tale of a half-healed and half-broken heart.  We may think we have mended ourselves emotionally and are “over” a relationship or a particular person until a moment or a memory brings it all back and the pain is still there.  “The Other Half” explores the portion of the heart that is still emotionally vulnerable.  No matter how much we want to be fine and want to be able to move on, sometimes the heart doesn’t move on from things quite as quickly as our minds.

Lyrically, the song is cleverly brilliant, conveying a novel of ideas and feelings within a few lines of beautifully harmonized vocals from a truly gifted group of musicians.

“Half of my heart’s got itself together

It’s treating life like it never got torn apart, left in the dark

Like it never met you from the start

Half of my heart don’t even remember

All those promises of forever

It’s doing fine, but that’s a lie

No, it still ain’t said goodbye”

With the release of “The Other Half”, King Calaway has provided us with the last preview of its upcoming sophomore full length release, ‘Tennessee’s Waiting’, which will drop on August 4th.  The 16-track project was produced by Zac Brown, and follow’s the band’s 2021 EP ‘Midnight’.  Following their runs with Blanco Brown and Dustin Lynch in 2022, the California Country sound-infused quartet will be on the road with Zac Brown Band from August through November.
