Sam Hunt is currently on the road playing for thousands per night on his “Outskirts” Tour.  The country superstar has released his latest single of the same name, available now on all streaming platforms via MCA Nashville.

Following a stretch of successful releases including “Start Nowhere” in late 2022 and “Walmart” in 2023, as well as the #1 single “Water Under The Bridge”, “Outskirts” is already making a splash at country radio in its short time out with the masses.

Written by Hunt along with Jerry Allen Flowers, Josh Osborne, Shane Mcanally, and Zach Crowell, the song is an emotional dive into the mind of someone who is reminiscing about the end of a relationship.  It’s a tale of coping with heartbreak, depicting the life of a single man who can keep his ex off his mind by staying busy in the city.  But when life slows down and he heads out to the country, he misses and longs for the relationship he once had and feelings of regret, remorse and grief come rushing back into his head and his heart.

“If I’da had a lick of damn sense

I’d be on the greener side of that fence

Little starter house we’ve finally outgrown

Twelve-hundred fee we’re ‘bout to add on”

As the song progresses, he begins to associate the living in the outskirts of town as the relationship itself, reflecting on how close they were to having a forever kind of love, and instead, all they have are memories and in his case, regrets.

“Way back in the holler where the grass grows

God almighty, baby, we were that close

To ditchin’ this town and settlin’ down

Out here on the outskirts”

As expected, and as has been the case with Hunt’s tunes in the past, the song is incredibly well written, polished and masterfully produced.  It’s a clean, easy sing-along track with the hooks and melodies in all the right places.  The lyrics are relatable, and the somber-sounding verses slowly build to the heavy-hitting chorus.

Despite his undeniable success over the past nearly ten years, Sam’s vocals have somewhat been underrated.  This guy can sing when he wants to, and he puts them on full display through the pivotal moments on this track, which promises to be yet another hit an in ever-growing catalogue or chart-climbers and toppers.

“Outskirts” will be featured on an upcoming full-length album with an as-of-yet-unannounced release date.  Hunt is currently on his nationwide summer amphitheater tour with special guests Brett Young and Lily Rose that will take him across the United States into September.
