Calling all fans of well-written, sing-along anthems.  We have great news!  Uncle Kracker is officially back!  Following the release of his first new song since the pandemic, the Michigan native and platinum recording star is offering another new tune.  “Reason To Drink” is available on all streaming platforms now via Sturgeon General Records.

Written by Matthew Shafer (aka Uncle Kracker) along with Blair Daly and Troy Verges, the tune centers around the concept that everything in life isn’t perfect, and while things could always be better, every day is an opportunity to be thankful for the life we get to live.  It’s a reminder to appreciate life’s small blessings and to appreciate what we have instead of focusing on what we do not.  And if there is a reason to drink, is that necessarily a bad thing?

During the pandemic in 2020, the music industry, much like everything else, shut down for a time, giving artists and songwriters the opportunity to deep dive into their thoughts and feelings.  The result is the outpouring of an abundance of new music over the past couple years.  Like many of his fellow singer-songwriters, Uncle Kracker turned to songwriting during the pandemic.

“’Reason To Drink’ is what happened one fine pandemic morning on a Zoom write where Blair Daly, Tory Verges and myself did more drinking that writing,” Shafer shares.  “It’s absolutely perfect!”

The result is yet another feel-good, relatable track featuring clever lyricism and infectious melodies that will have fans dancing and singing along upon their first listen.  Uncle Kracker’s trademark vocal delivery is on point as usual, giving the tune that extra dose of country pop crossover appeal that we have come to know and love from the Michigan native.

“I got cracks in my ceiling but they’re over my head

I got a blanket of bills that keeps me warm in my bed

There’s a lot to be said for sleeping with peace of mind

I got a reason to laugh, I got a reason to cry

I believe there’s a reason I’m even alive”

As hard as it may be to believe, we might have forgotten just how much we missed this multi-genre hitmaker’s music until now.  Whether it’s country, pop, or somewhere in between, the music world needs Uncle Kracker.  And it looks like we are fortunate enough to witness the latest chapter in his music catalogue.

Uncle Kracker's last released a full-length album in 2012.  Titled ‘Midnight Special’, the 11-song set was released via Sugar Hill Records and included the singles “Nobody’s Sad on a Saturday Night” and “Blue Skies”.

“Reason To Drink” follows “Sweet 16”, which marked the first taste of new music since the pandemic.  With two new brand tracks, we are all anxiously speculating the possibility of a new album on the horizon.  Meanwhile, fans will have the opportunity to hear Uncle Kracker’s new songs as well as his classic hits live at his appearances on “The Sharp Dressed Simple Man Tour” co-headlined by ZZ Top & Lynyrd Skynyrd through mid-September at amphitheaters across the country.
