In February 2023, standout country artist Becca Bowen commanded the attention of country music fans and critics alike with the release of her confidently sassy and true-story scandal, “Son Of A Gun”.  The fiery single put the genre on notice of the potential of this country starlet, and now she is back with the conclusion of that tale.  “If I’m Being Honest” is available on all streaming platforms now.

The West Columbia, SC native’s latest release is a robust influx of internal emotions and external actions, intertwining feelings of resentment and betrayal with thoughts of resilience and bravado.  The tune sees Becca going out for a night on the town shortly after the end of a toxic, tumultuous, and scandalous relationship.

The lyrics are boisterous and bold, and Bowen’s powerful vocals are on full display throughout the track, emitting the emotion of the song from start to finish.  As was the case with “Son Of A Gun,” the material message behind “If I’m Being Honest” is a personal one for Becca, and the honesty and vulnerability she reveals through the words she’s singing as well as the tone with which she delivers comes from a place of unfiltered sensibility.

There are elements of bitterness and anger intertwined with resiliency and closure.  As the song progresses, it’s apparent that she is not fully over her breakup, but she is doing the best she can to put the past behind her and move on with her life.

Despite the complexity and serious emotional impact behind the subject matter, this is a really catchy tune.  The story-telling verses break into the sing-along chorus, and it’s a solid, upbeat listen for fans of all country music tastes.

“I think I will go out, downtown

Get drunk, make out

Anything to forget you

I got on my high heels, short dress

Sparking interest

Turning every heard in the room

If I’m being honest

They all look better than you”

This is the latest track in an ever-building musical catalogue that showcases the undeniable talent of this rising country music starlet.  ‘Like You’ve Never Been Loved’, Becca’s debut full-length album, was released in November 2022 and featured her debut single “Love It, Leave It,” fan-favorite “Glitter,” as well as the standout singles “Who I’m Not” and “How It All Went Down.”

“Son Of A Gun” was released in February 2023 and garnered the attention and praise from many throughout the industry, and with good reason.  The tune built off the positive vibes amongst fans, media, and other artists put into motion by the music video for “Glitter” earlier this year, and took that momentum to another level.  Now, with the release of “If I’m Being Honest” as a follow up, the sky appears to be the limit for “Country Barbie”.
