Leah Marie Mason caught the attention of the country music industry with her heart-wrenching, debut single “Far Boy” when she amassed over 13 million streams with it earlier this year.

However, as much buzz as the song attracted for her, the most important ear that it caught may have come from country singer Austin Burke – who she has now teamed up with for a duet version of the song.

This new version stays very close to the original for the most part, and it leans mostly on Mason’s incredible vocals to deliver the powerful lyrics as she sings from the outside looking in perspective on her ex’s new fling through the opening verse, while also spelling out the specific details that she clearly recognizes:

“I bet you pick her up at 10 past 8PM

Open up that car door before she reaches to get in.”

However, where the original version of the song stayed squarely focused on the perspective from only the female point of view, the addition of Austin Burke - and an entirely new second verse - adds the male’s side of the story and gives this a whole new flavor:

“I’m going down a winding road to the bottom of an empty bottle

And even though I’m with her girl, you gotta know that I still want ya

Cause it’s 10 past 8 and she looks great, but I don’t think she know

I see your face in every place no matter how far this goes.”

Though we never do see the couple coming back together and reconciling, what this true duet version of the song offers that the original didn’t is the extreme vulnerability and pain that both sides are experiencing now that they’ve split.

What will make this version of “Far Boy” quite possibly surpass the success of the original, though, is just how well Mason and Burke’s voices balance against each other’s; whether it’s when one or the other takes the leads, or when Mason slides back into the harmony role on the second chorus.
