Jordan Davis hit right out of the gate in 2017 with his debut single “Singles You Up,” when he ran it right up the Country Airplay chart to the #1 position.

Each subsequent release thereafter proved that he wasn’t just experiencing beginner’s luck. “Take It From Me” and his most current single “Almost Maybes” both found their way into the top 10, while he notched a second #1 with “Slow Dance In A Parking Lot.”

With his name already well established in the country music world, a tremendous amount of buzz surrounded his latest EP Buy Dirt, and he now returns to radio with his second single from it (following “Almost Maybes”) with the title track, “Buy Dirt.”

Accompanied by Luke Bryan, the song tones down some of the pop-based country melodies that we’ve grown accustomed to from Davis, and instead, trades them in for a heartfelt pace that leans on a softer mid-tempo side which perfectly encompasses the depth of the lyrics.

“Few days before he turned 80, He was sitting out back in a rocker - He said, what you been up to lately…” are the lines that open the song, and just like that we’re tossed into a lyric that instantly recalls the not so long ago 2010s era where advice songs that saw the older generation teaching the younger generation about what matters most in life were a radio mainstay.

In the case of this song, the elder educates throughout the chorus about all the things that truly matter the most in life; buying property to call your own, finding the one that you can’t live without and marrying them, making an offering at church on Sunday, making time for your kids because they grow up too quickly, etc.

I’ve always personally loved these types of songs and over the last decade they’ve kind of faded away, but that’s exactly what makes this one so refreshing to hear from Jordan Davis in today’s era. Take that refreshing feeling and couple it with Davis’ stellar track record and the addition of Luke Bryan to the song, and it’s a safe bet to say that Jordan Davis is about to notch his third #1 with “Buy Dirt.”
