Country music icon Garth Brooks is at that point in his career where anything that he does is met with a tremendous amount of buzz and fanfare. However, that doesn’t mean that Garth is giving up on delivering great songs.

On the heels of announcing his first ever stadium show in Nashville, Brooks delivers his brand-new single “That’s What Cowboys Do” – the fifth release from his latest album Fun.

The song, co-written by Brooks, John Martin, and Mitch Rossell, captures the traditional side of Garth Brooks back catalog, while also sticking very close to a topic that the icon is familiar with – the lonesome rodeo cowboy.

The traditional country styled ballad leans on the cry of a fiddle to pull you through the waltz infused rhythm as Brooks takes you on a journey through one-night stands – whether it be with a woman who told him she was lonely and it would be alright, or if it was dancing with the devil one night in Texas.

Where Brooks shines, though, is in his ability to take a familiar topic and twist it into something completely fresh and new. He does that here by turning the focus from the one-night, to how it all affects him when it comes his time to leave…as he sings in the chorus, “They’re just passing through, that’s what cowboys do” – aptly portraying the role of the cowboy.

This is Garth Brooks doing what Garth Brooks does best. He leans a classic country type of lyric perfectly against his vocal delivery while allowing the traditional instrumentation to shine in all the right ways. As he’s been doing since the 90’s, Brooks delivers a song that is a surefire dancehall hit, while providing something just different enough to be an attractive addition to the current Top 40.
