Though her past couple releases, “In Her Shoes” and “Getting Over You Thing” with Zack Dyer, have both leaned into a softer tilt, Sophia Scott has also shown her abilities to walk an unbridled sass into her party-going side on songs such as “Don’t Tempt Me.”

Her newest release, “Boots, Jeans, & Jesus,” co-written by Sophia with Nolan Sipe, and Sam Martinez, fits the aura of the latter as she leans into a groove heavy grind that irresistibly pulls you in the moment you hit play and your hips begin to sway along in perfect rhythm with the ultra-catchy melody.

Enticed by the cowboy at the bar who is striking the chord of all her guilty pleasures, Scott goes into an immediate barstool confession as she tries to resist urges that are pushing her toward a sinful nature, admitting that she’s about to fall from heaven, that she’s dancing with temptation, and that while she knows she needs some saving, it’s two long days until Sunday church.

Slapping into the chorus knowing that her own inhibitions are about to break her, she leans into what is nothing short of a prayer like plea that’s asking for some saving her from herself:

“And that boy’s trouble, hell he’s got me shooting doubles

And it ain’t even hit midnight

I’m cowboy crazy, pickin pedals off a daisy

Thinkin’ things that ain’t ladylike

I’m hanging on a prayer, don’t let me go there

Cause the only thing between us

Is boots, jeans, and Jesus”

Continuing to fight her inhibitions through the second half of the song as the two of them are getting closer and closer to crossing the line, she fully confesses that she’s about to make a whiskey decision while using an incredibly crafty play on words to recall the story of Adam & Eve in comparison like fashion as she begs her friends to steer her away, “don’t let me bite the apple.”

With each new song from Sophia Scott over the past year, she has continually moved another step ahead on her path while precisely positioning herself for a highly anticipated strike when her debut full-length drops. “Boots, Jeans, & Jesus” will absolutely launch that swirling buzz to incredible new heights with not only a melody that stays stuck with you for days, but by also giving a full spectrum view of her gifted abilities as a songwriter and vocalist; three ingredients that measure up to one heck of a memorable power punch of a single.
