While there’s no clear-cut blueprint for an independent artist to follow to achieve success, one look at Hayden Coffman’s resume would argue that he’s absolutely found the way.

Over the last year, Coffman has continuously built an incredibly strong fan base on the back of songs such as “Good as It Gets,” “Good ‘Ol Boys,” “Lose Somebody You Love,” and “Better Off,” all which have combined to amass millions of views and streams.

Hot off a successful spring tour with Jacob Bryant, Coffman has now released his brand-new single “Drink One Anyway.”

The summertime anthem is clearly geared for today’s Top 40 with a pop laden backbeat that lays perfectly underneath the mid-tempo groove that immediately makes you clap along with its vibe.

Coffman does hit on some of the cliches that all songs like this must have, from singing along with the cover band to drinking down one too many. However, where most summer tilted songs tend to focus on the good-time party atmosphere somewhere under the sun or out on a boat, Coffman swerves the lyrics in such a way that they intriguingly take you to a fresh, unexpected territory unlike most of the songs that carry this type of feel.

Might not wanna say it, but I’m just sayin’,” Coffman leads out of the opening verse into the chorus, where he shifts the lyrical focus to the point of the motive behind his drinking “one anyway” when he reveals the reason as being a heartbreak as he exposes when he sings the lines:

When her memory's comin' on strong

And I'm as long gone as you can get

Yeah, you can bet

I'm gonna drink one anyway.”

Lamenting as the song progresses in a convincing himself like fashion, he ponders the question that asks, “Why stop if you’re gonna start?” as he continues to drink her memory away as the song rolls to its end.

Hayden Coffman has found a perfect way to take the summer type of song that infects our radios this time of year and give it a deeper feel so that it connects with an entirely different audience demographic than the typical summer song. That strong connection factor combines with the fact that its ultra-catchy melody has you listening to it on repeat, making this a song that notches another tick on Coffman’s resume as he steps forward into the warmer weather months in a big big way.
