Finding your lane and weaving your path through a very crowded Nashville music scene so as to stand out and make your mark on it is certainly a treacherous and tricky road. However, when you have that certain something special, the “it” factor if you will, your road becomes a lot clearer with each step you take forward on it.

Hailey Dawn has managed to do that over the past three years since releasing her first song “Tennessee” in 2018.

With sold out shows at Nashville hotspot The Listening Room Café, and a very well-received EP Hollow Heart, Hailey Dawn has been taking major leaps ahead with each move she’s made, including with the release of “Waterfalls (The One I Want)” from said EP.

With a sound that often finds the perfect blend of her pop and country influences, “Waterfalls” fuses the two of them together into a softer package that leans on simple instrumentation and often a haunting feel that perfectly suits the heartache lyrics and allows Hailey Dawn’s vocals to shine in the spotlight.

There’s an innocence to her voice that mixes with the complicated emotions she’s having as she sings of being in love with someone that she can’t be with as she helplessly watches his toxic relationship with someone else developing.

There’s a slight punch into the chorus that allows her to elevate her voice and showcase her vocal range as she displays the stuck feeling that she’s having through lines such as, “There’s a waterfall in my head, filled with things I should have said” and “There’s a waterfall in my head, looking back filled with regret,” before lamenting “I wish you knew you were the one that I want.”

“Waterfalls” is another in a line of very solid efforts from Hailey Dawn, and it’s certainly a song that will continue to earn her attention while accomplishing a grander goal as it will have you digging deeper into her back catalog to discover more as she prepares new music and is getting set to open her next chapter.
