There is a particular kind of confidence that does not ask to be believed; it simply walks into the room and takes the microphone. “Chrome Pony,” Kassi Ashton’s latest single, has exactly that energy. Released September 4, 2026, the MCA Nashville track turns overcoming adversity into something brash, cinematic and unmistakably alive. Co-written by Ashton with Ryan Beaver and Jared Keim, it transforms hard-earned resilience into a celebration of the person who emerges after the struggle.

“Chrome Pony” is the third new song Ashton has released in 2026, following “Bitches” and “Bratmobile,” and it continues a creative stretch she has described as her “season of empowerment.” That description fits, but the song is more interesting than a straightforward empowerment anthem. Ashton’s message is not simply to endure the hard parts. It is to come through them with enough self-belief to get back up, take another swing and feel unapologetic about everything it took to get there.

That attitude is carried by a vocal performance that remains the song’s biggest attraction. Ashton has a naturally distinctive instrument, but what makes her delivery compelling is the way she balances force with personality. Her voice can sound gritty and commanding without losing its warmth, and she knows precisely when to pull back before letting the bigger moments hit. Rather than singing about confidence from a safe distance, she makes it sound inhabited. The result is a performance that feels earned rather than performed.

The production gives her plenty of room to do that. “Chrome Pony” draws from country’s storytelling tradition while embracing a contemporary, genre-fluid sensibility. Its Western atmosphere and swagger provide the foundation, but the track is not interested in simply recreating a vintage country sound. The single arrives as Ashton builds on the foundation established by her 2024 debut album, ‘Made From The Dirt,’ and its 2025 deluxe edition, ‘Made From The Dirt: The Blooms.’ Those releases established an artist comfortable mixing country with rock, soul and other influences while putting her own personality at the center. “Chrome Pony” carries that approach forward with even greater confidence.

What makes the song satisfying is that its bravado never feels borrowed. Ashton does not sound as though she is constructing a persona; she sounds increasingly comfortable letting her existing one fill the frame. “Chrome Pony” is a victory lap with dirt still on its boots—and Kassi Ashton sounds like she intends to enjoy every second of it.
