Independent artist - and US Air Force captain - Bree Jaxson has recently made a tremendous splash on the country music circuit when her video for “With You” earned rotation on CMT, impacting with its heartfelt lyric that presented an open letter of comfort to her own children, who also were in the video with her to add strong visuals to its already powerful dynamic.

She now returns with her new single “Strangers Again,” her first release of 2023.

While country music has certainly embraced her, Jaxson always gingerly toes the line of her widespread influences to include elements of jazz and pop into her fusion of sound, which she absolutely does again here.

The prominent piano that laces the soft instrumentation provides the precise accompaniment that not only holds the emotional tug of the lyric, but also allows Bree’s naturally gifted vocal to stand in the forefront and deliver the proper feelings of past heartbreak as her ex is fighting to get back in while she’s trying to move on from him.

Painting perfect pictures of their time in love together, Jaxson leans into each of the verses on specific moments that defined them as a couple; from when they spent long nights in the neon lights together to when he first touched her and the way it made her feel.

These strong memories of what used to be, though, are the very thing that keeps her only moving one step forward but two steps back, as we see when she laments:

“They still play in my mind every time I hear that song come on”

“They still play in my mind every time I hear your name come up”

However, it’s when she strikes into the bridge and the final chorus that she injects such a strong depth into the song.

Switching certain phrasing so the perspective shifts away from him, to instead grip her emotions, she admits through her pain that she wishes they could go back to before she ever let him in while confessing that she wishes she was tipsy so it wouldn’t hurt anymore, battling her heart against her mind in her efforts to just become strangers again.

Bree Jaxson boldly continues to display the signature power of her voice on “Strangers Again,” while defining her overall aura with solid lyrics and a clear know-how of utilizing the instrumentation within the melody to hit hard in all the right feels, aptly connecting with the broken hearted who have one foot on their next, while the other is tugging the past.
