Canadian country music artist Robyn Ottolini is in the midst of a life-and-career-changing year.  While eclipsing 100 million total global streams and scoring a platinum-certified single “F-150” as well as the gold-certified “Tell You Everything”, she is set to hit the road as a special guest on the eastern leg of Shania Twain’s “Queen Of Me” Canadian tour next month.

While her music catalogue continues to grow and garner praise throughout the country music world, Robyn has released another new song that is personal and relatable and one that will hit close to home for many of her fans and listeners.  “Sad To Work” is available on all streaming platforms now.

In her still incredibly young career, Robyn has already become known and applauded for her ability to write a sophisticated song with down-to-earth, simple subjects told in “real life” terms.  To not only articulate her thoughts and feelings and convey them to listener, but also to translate those emotions into a movie scene that plays out in the listeners’ minds as they hear the song as a gift this songstress has and continues to share with all of us.

Musically, “Sad To Work” has an almost indie vs. emo feel to it, with her stripped down vulnerable approach and her unapologetically jaded view of her current situation taking the forefront.  The emotional grit and wherewithal to put one foot in front of the other and do what she has to do despite her broken heart is the real-life stories we, as listeners and as fans of music, love to hear from fresh young faces on the scene.  Yes, the party anthems are fun and the love songs are sweet, but songs about not just heartbreak, but the concept that life doesn’t stop (or even slow down) after a breakup, are those that can make a difference in someone’s life.

As described by Ottolini herself, “this song is about my experience struggling to get through my shift when I’m literally falling apart”.

Lyrically, “Sad To Work” is a cross between a poem, a diary, and a short story.  And it’s brilliant.

“I would text the guy I broke up with before ya

He made me feel the way I used to feel before ya

But it’s Monday morning and I’m still in mourin’

And I feel like I’d rather die, tell me why”

Finally, we would be remiss if we failed to mention the incredible vocal ability of this gifted singer.  She has the raw talent, undoubtedly, but the manner in which she can control and unleash the vocal power at all the right times and places pushes this song to the next level.

“Sad To Work” follows “Match For My Memory”, her first through her new distribution deal with Empire.
