With what could have been a setback with being put on vocal rest and having surgery earlier this year, rising country starlet Charly Reynolds instead embodied the idea of finding the silver lining which added a transparent honesty to the perfectly timed release of her songs “Out Of My Hands” and “One Day At A Time,” connecting them now through a different lens that made them resonate that much deeper with the listener.

With that slight detour now behind her, Reynolds re-emerged onto the performance side of her music career on April 14th at Nashville’s 5th & Broadway in support of her brand-new single “Flowers.”

Co-written by Reynolds, Rachel Wiigins & Caroline Watkins, the softer pace provides the perfect amount of room for Charly’s incredible voice to capture the heart tugging lyrics that sing emotionally through knowing that a relationship is drifting to its gut-wrenching breaking point as you’re standing on the edge of just about being strong enough to break it off.

Setting the tone of the song, Reynolds takes us straight to the grocery store checkout line during the opening verse where she spots the $3.99 flowers that invoke the hurt and sadness within her as they become the in her face reminder that things are not what they once were.

Spiraling then through an honest examination of where the relationship is versus where it once was, Reynolds paints the picture when she sings lines in each of the verses, such as:

“I wonder the last time he brought some home for me, it’s probably been two Valentine’s.”

“He used to surprise me, open my car door… Yeah, I guess he stopped trying once he won me over.”

The chorus sees her lamenting on when and why things changed as she slightly self-blames on what she might have done to cause it, only to land at the incredible hook that sees her adding an exclamation point onto the next to last page in their soon to be ending story:

“Sure, would be nice to have someone like that

Who tries just a little, is that too much too ask?

Did I push him away?

Cause I don’t know when or why things changed

Maybe I’m crazy for staying this long

When half the time it’s like nobody’s home

Maybe I’m just not strong enough to walk away

But I bought myself flowers today”

Charly Reynolds has done everything right in 2023 despite everything she’s had to deal with, and “Flowers” is simply her next incredible stamp as she continues to attract buzz, putting her signatures into the spotlight to define her emotionally charged vocals and amazing ability to craft songs through the classic country vibe of storytelling with modern injections to make it strike with today’s listener.
