Since she appeared on season 16 of The Voice in 2019 as part of Team Kelly, Presley Tennant has been able to successfully weave her path into the country music market and earn a substantial amount of buzz with her singles “Bite the Bullet,” “Always You,” and “Temporary.”

With her latest release “Half That Strong,” the Norco, California native pays homage to the support that her father gave to her throughout her life – including giving her the encouragement to chase her music dreams.

Tennant sings in the opening lines of the song, “You came from almost nothing. You turned nothing into something beautiful,” and she instantly describes the hard-working person that her father is, and then offers a glimpse into the sacrifices that he made for his family so that they’d have more than he did growing up.

She uses descriptive pops to describe him throughout the pre-chorus such as a protector, provider, and superhero, before giving way to the chorus where she confesses that she wishes she could be half that strong, half that brave, and find the words to say thank you to him.

Continuing to place her father on the pedestal that he clearly deserves to be on, Tennant turns the lyrics to how she is who she is because of him and the values he’s instilled in her; mainly that there is no dream she can’t believe in (presumably, singing about the music path she’s currently on).

The softer pace of the song allows Tennant’s vocals to carry the lyric and inject it with the proper emotions they need to strike the heartstrings of the fathers who are out there listening and break down their usually strong armor to bring a tear to their eye.

Coming off a television competition can have its ups and downs, but Presley Tennant has been able to find herself as an artist because of it, and she clearly isn’t looking back. With songs like the past few that she’s released, it’s a safe bet to think that she’ll move from buzzed about artist, to being one to watch by the end of 2021.
