STEPHANIE RYANN

Undiscovered Nashville’s ‘Pre-Famous’

Saturday June 18, 2023

@ The Clubhouse at Sonny’s in Nashville, TN

(Review By: Jeffrey Kurtis)

As Nashville floods with weekend tourists who point their arrow at the flashing neon lights of Broadway, just a few miles North in Germantown is Sonny's Patio Pub & Refuge, one of the local hotspots that draws the perfect combination of friends gathering for a late-night drink, new to towner's who have just found their own version of Cheers, and music lovers looking to discover the next big thing.

With their recent switch from Thursday nights to Saturday, Undiscovered Nashville's ‘Pre-Famous’ has positioned themselves as a must see, weekend songwriter round.

Where most everywhere else on a weekend in Nashville is inundated with worn out cover songs, Undiscovered Nashville refreshingly delivers original talent, putting on a tremendous showcase of the songwriting community with a who's who of the on the verge writers on the cusp of breaking out.

Thursday night inside The Clubhouse at Sonny's presented a cozy listening room feel, but Saturday night excitingly swerves the atmosphere to turn it into one-part listening room and one-part relaxed gathering of soon to be friends sharing a laugh while breathing out the long week as they put it behind them with a drink in their hand.

In the final round of this already stellar night of music, Stephanie Ryann capped off her very busy week with an impressive sixth show in as many days.

Introducing herself through her most recent single "Wild Thing," Ryann instantly pulled in the crowd with the adventurous tale of finding independence by living untamed and carefree in the moment, allowing the deeper tones that are naturally embedded in her vocal to add the proper amount of grit to the gravelly edge of the ultra-addictive melody.

"If any of you have anyone in your lives that you've lost...I've been taught that when a cardinal visits you, it's someone from heaven coming to visit," she shared as she softened the pace with her upcoming single "Redbirds," pouring pure emotion into what she introduced as being inspired by the loss of her in-laws, connecting heart to heart with the crowd as she presented a lyric that grabbed hold of the coming to understand feeling that over time it's all going to be okay because they're always still there watching over you.

"I wrote this one just two days ago," Stephanie plugged as she offered a glimpse into new things to come with "The Reason," keeping the pace on the softer side while journeying through a story of raising up from rock bottom draped in glory and redemption, which cleverly sang out like a gratitude filled prayer.

"Hell I've Been Given" provided the perfect bookend to her four song selection, ending the night with what she told to be her story as she turned closed the final pages of her diary in a similar way she did when she first opened it with "Wild Thing," leaving a lasting mark on the crowd by giving a complete and full autobiographical look into who she is; both the musician and the person!
