Q&A's

Hayden Coffman is certainly no stranger to the country music faithful. His songs, including “Better Off,” “Where’s The Whiskey,” “Good Ol’ Boys,” and “Good As It Gets,” have played a major role in him amassing millions and millions of streams while catapulting his status to the top echelon blueprint or every independent artist to follow. With his brand-new EP Beer Ain’t Cold already gaining heavy amounts of steam, we had the chance to check in with Hayden and talk with him all about the EP, the overall summery vibe of it, the impact his music videos have consistently made, his collaborations with Chase Matthew and Trey Lewis, and much more!

1) You just released your brand-new EP Beer Ain’t Cold on June 23, 2023. Tell us a little bit about it and what fans can expect to hear.

I hadn’t put an EP or album out in a couple of years so I figured I would put some feel good summer songs together for an EP! These songs touch all the bases…love, heartbreak, drinking, etc. I think anybody looking for some summer jams to listen to at the lake, bonfire, or backroad will really like these songs.

2) Why did you feel that “Take The Lonely” was the right song to first introduce this new batch of music?

I decided to drop this song as a single because I felt like it really sticks out. I wanted it to get the love I thought it deserved. Most people I know have been affected by divorce in one way or another so I felt like the song would resonate with a large group of people! I also feel like the beat on the song is very cohesive with the energy I was going for.

3) The day of the EP release, you gifted fans with not only the release of it, but also with a new music video for “Beer Ain’t Cold.” Your videos are always done so well. Tell us more about the concept of this one and how it’s been received by your fans so far.

I think the video is hilarious. I had my friends ‘The Cornbread Cowboi’ and Sydney Groom from Farmer Wants A Wife in the music video and they did a great job. The storyline is ‘Cornbread’ is a little league baseball coach who is really just there to flirt with the moms. He falls for Sydney (a mom of one of the players) in the video and ends up taking her down to the honkytonk where they drank, played pool, danced, and he sweeps her off her feet! I think it’s awesome.

4) Besides the music video, you also accompanied the release of the project with lyric videos for most of the songs. What’s the promotion mindset behind releasing your music alongside visual pieces, and since you’ve conquered this market with over 17 million total plays on YouTube, what kind of bump does releasing lyric videos offer you that a full production music video doesn’t?

I always like to do this because I don’t think you can have too much content out there. Essentially, it’s just getting the most out of each release that you possibly can. Personally, I also like to know every word to songs I like, as a fan, so I hope my fans can always watch those for any confusion! I also have people on YouTube that will make lyric videos to my songs before me, so I decided to beat them to the punch on this project haha!

5) The EP is built around 6 songs that are geared toward summer. You mentioned this being by design. How many other songs did you write that just didn’t fit the overall vibe that you were going for with this project that we can expect to hear from you down the road?

I write all the time throughout the year so I never freaky sat down and wrote specifically for this project. However, when I was going through a lot of the songs I have written, I was searching for 5/6 songs that would go together for the summer vibe. Luckily, I’ve been writing enough to where I had the luxury of doing that. There were many other songs that could’ve gone on there, but they will be released eventually!

6) 50% of the tracks on this EP were co-written by you, Ethan Escue, and Drake Freeman. What is it about writing with them that brings out the best in you to make the songs as strong as they can be?

Something just clicks different with those guys. I’ve known them for years and they’ve gotten to be a part of seeing me rise up a little bit so that definitely helps in the writing room. They understand me as a person, and my brand, so it makes it very easy to collaborate on songs that I would personally put out as an artist.

7) The EP was produced by Grady Saxman. What did Grady bring to the studio that helped shape the overall sound of the EP in ways that might not have otherwise been there?

Grady always helps me bring these songs to life with great energy. I always bring him these songs with just an acoustic work-tape on my phone because I love to see how his brain hears it when we add the full production. We always seem work well together and agree on most things in the studio and this project was no different.

8) If we’re twisting your arm, what is your personal favorite song from EP and why?

Mhmm that’s a tough one! I would say “Beer Ain’t Cold” just because it hits so different at the live shows, it’s electric! Also, “Take The Lonely” just because it’s crazy to see how many people can relate and literally know every word to that song.

9) Leading up to the EP, you’ve released some great collaborations with Chase Matthew on his “Raised In The Holler” as well as your own “One Of Our Kind,” and also with Trey Lewis on “Give A Country Boy A Call.” Can we expect some more collabs from you in the future? If so, can you tell us about any of them that are on the near horizon?

We definitely have more collabs coming in the future! I can’t say any names yet, but we are definitely working on getting a female collab going right now! A couple others are also in the works!

10) We always end with this one, but what one piece of advice can you offer to someone who is just starting out and trying to break into the music industry?

Don’t care what anybody thinks. There’s no rhyme or reason to anything in the music business so all you can do is focus on YOU and make sure you’re making the best music possible. Out work everybody, every day.
