Q&A's

Emerging country artist Molly Lovette has been building a strong grassroots following with each single she’s released over the past year. However, it could be her latest single, “Hey Hey,” that brings her to the monumental breakout success that she’s been setting up for. We recently caught up with Molly to talk with her about her new summer vibed single, which song from her entire catalog is her personal favorite, working with Hope Nation’s summer concert series, getting back out on the road, and much more!

Single Review of "Hey Hey"

1. Tell us a little bit about your new single “Hey Hey.”

I’ve been looking forward to releasing this song for a while now. It’s upbeat and fun, and I was really hoping that everyone was going to like it as much as I do! I wrote this song after running into an old friend at a bar. It was one of those nights spent drinking a little too much, reminiscing the old memories, and making new ones.

2. Why did you feel that “Hey Hey” was a great song to follow-up “Break A Heart”? What does this new song show about you as an artist that “Break a Heart” didn’t?

I think "Break a Heart" showed the more vulnerable, emotional side of me, but for the next release, and especially as a summer release, I wanted to give my fans a fun, “jam out in your car with the windows down” kind of song. I think releasing these two songs back to back shows my versatility as an artist.

3. Over this past year you’ve been releasing a bunch of great new songs including “One Woman Show,” “Lovin’ You,” the already mentioned “Break a Heart,” and now “Hey Hey.” Are these songs going to be part of bigger project like an EP or album? If so, is there any tentative release date for that

As of now, the plan is to keep releasing singles. I love the idea of an EP or album, but with the way music is sold today it makes the most sense for me to keep releasing singles right now. I also love that I get to give my fans a new song every few months!

4. Besides “Hey Hey,” which one song from your catalog stands out as your personal favorite and why?

"One Woman Show" will always be one of my favorites. I spent a long time working on the lyrics to that one because I wanted to get the message across in the right way. "One Woman Show" is for those chasing a dream, the single moms, women in the workforce, the little girls who look up to me as an artist, and the list goes on. This song is so much bigger than myself!

5. For someone who has never heard your music before, which one song would you recommend that they listen to first so that they get the entire feel of who you are as an artist?

I would tell them to listen to "Lovin’ You" - my music is about my own life and experiences, and right now that happens to be a lot of relationship things. "Lovin’ You" is a very honest song, with a fun hook, and my favorite fiddle solo. I think this song is a good representation of me as an artist.

6. A pretty cool thing you’re a part of this month (June 2021) is Hope Nation Radio’s summer concert series on Facebook Live. Can you tell us a little bit about Hope Nation Radio and why it’s important to you to be part of this concert series?

Yes! Hope Nation Radio is an online radio station that raises money to help children and their families that are fighting cancer. They also recently partnered with St. Jude. One of my favorite things about music is the power it has to change someone's whole mood or outlook. I want to use my music to help people. This concert series is something that I know will make a lot of people smile, and help some children and families who really need it. I’m so grateful to be a part of it.

7. Speaking of playing shows…you have a bunch of them lined up over the next few months. After this past year we’ve experienced, what are you most looking forward to with paying shows in front of a live audience again?

I’m SO excited to get back to playing shows! I’m really looking forward to the full band shows. I’ve released a lot of new music this past year that I haven’t got to perform live yet and I can’t wait! I’ve loved the virtual shows I’ve been able to do this past year, but you can’t beat the real stuff...seeing the smiling faces in the crowd, hearing everyone sing along, getting to meet and hug everyone after the shows...it’s going to feel so good.

8. What can someone who just discovered your music over the past year, but has never seen you play live, expect from a Molly Lovette show that just listening to your music doesn’t offer to them?

If you come to a live show, I will put on a show! As most people who follow me know, I love all things sparkly and over the top. I tend to have outfit changes, fun medley’s…basically whatever my team and I can come up with to give the audience a “show.”

9. You’ve told the story about how Tim McGraw was your first concert at 5 years old and how much it impacted you. What is it like for you today when kids come up to you after a show and tell you that you were their first concert?

There is nothing like being at a concert in my opinion...you’re in a crowd full of people, watching an artist you all love sing the songs you love...it is a surreal feeling. I love when kids come up to me after shows because I was one of those kids once, and I know how exciting it all is. I try my best to make them feel so special with pictures and merch and just chatting with them after shows.

10. What is the best piece of advice that you can offer an aspiring songwriter/artist just trying to break into the music business?

Be yourself, stay true to who you are as an artist/songwriter. That is easier said than done, but in reality if you are just like everybody else, how are you going to stick out? Don’t be afraid to be a little different. And be kind! What goes around comes around, and there is never a reason to treat someone poorly. I think a combination of these two things will take you pretty far.
