With her more recent releases “Can’t Stop” and “Somebody Else’s,” Chloe Collins continued to display maturity in her songwriting while creating a substantial amount of buzz that’s helped elevate her status as a singer/songwriter as she’s stamped ahead, carving out more of her country music path to stardom.

Her brand-new release, “Red Looks Good On Me,” takes everything we’ve come to know and expect from Collins, completely chucks it out the window, and takes a hard left turn to deliver something intriguing like we’ve never heard from her before.

A Latin type of flare through the intro quickly gives way to guitars splicing into the mix and a moody, pop punk infused backing groove of a simple bass line that allows the effects on Collins vocals to set the somewhat darker tone of the lyrics, which for lack of better terms sing about the bad boy!

She uses the opening verse to vividly paint the picture of the guy as being one wearing a Red Hot Chili Pepper’s t-shirt, smoking a Marlboro, and being a modern James Dean type.

Whereas there are certainly a lot of songs about this subject matter, what Collins does so amazingly well within her lyrics occurs when she transparently looks in the mirror to fully admit her shortcomings when it comes to falling for the wrong guy as she questioningly sings in the second verse, “Maybe I’m going through a phase or something!”

The chorus, however, is where she truly allows her songwriting prowess to shine brightest. She first sings of knowing that the guy is a walking red flag and that she should walk away from him, but then flips the script as she sings of being tragically obsessed with his bad boy persona before shifting to a mischievous tone in her voice to slyly spill the truth through the incredible hook, “good thing red looks good on me!”

This is an entirely new feel from Chloe Collins that’s completely unlike anything that we’ve heard from her before. This song walks on the much more edgy side, while it also masterfully showcases her ability to swerve way outside of her normal comfort zone to confidently explore a fresh, new sound.

Couple this extreme boldness with the fact that she clearly knows how to use her voice in all the right ways to convey the tone of each line so that they carry the right weight of emotion, and you’ve just become part of an exciting new chapter that’s opening for Chloe Collins that just might be giving us a strong indication as to which direction she could be sliding in the near future.
