Since receiving a standing ovation at his Grand Ole Opry debut after playing “Clean Up On Aisle Five,” Mo Pitney has gained a strong following from the neo-traditional fanbase with his traditional country style, which he hits with just enough of a modern touch to earn him a place on today’s country radio.

He is now set to release “Local Honey” - the second single from his sophomore album Ain’t Lookin’ Back.

The laidback, summertime feel instantly grabs your attention and gets you bopping along as soon as the opening keys give way to the feel-good groove.

The family friendly lyric leans towards the innocent and flirtatious side as he sings of a summertime attraction to the girl at the fruit stand down at the local farmer’s market. He uses a comparative play on words between the local goods she is peddling and the local honey he sees in her, as he describes her in the chorus as being “sweeter than sugar” and “homegrown down the road about a mile from here.”

Pitney paints vivid scenes with very descriptive lines such as, “Selling raspberry jelly in her right hand, I joked about the jam just to catch her name,” “I helped her pack up when the sun died, and took her to the diner for a root beer float,” etc.

However, where so many artists are leaving the story without closure, Pitney uses the bridge of the song to let the listener know that they did in fact end up together.

Country music has experienced a lot of growth spurts and moved more into the pop-driven market in recent years, but Mo Pitney offers a refreshing brand of modern country that always very wisely keeps one foot standing tall on his classic country influences. “Local Honey” continues this trend, and there is little doubt in this writer’s mind that this song will find the Top 40 very soon!
