JAMES BAKER BAND - Ahead of Our Time - RECORDS Nashville

One of Canada’s hottest rising acts, RECORDS Nashville’s James Barker Band has tallied nearly 300 million global career streams to date and has slated five No. 1 singles in their native country.  Now, the four-piece act has their sights set on Nashville and beyond, having already released a slew of tunes earlier this year. 

Their brand-new tune, “Ahead Of Our Time”, coincides with the release of their label debut EP, both available digitally and on all streaming platforms now.

An open-ended ode to that one special person that got away, JBB’s latest is yet another well-written, clean and crisp tune that will resonate with the listener while also inviting each of our own individual interpretations.  One of the elements of Barker and Co’s songwriting approach is to not only tell a story, but leave a lot up to the imagination of the listener to conclude the story.  We, as people, connect with lyrics so personally because we take the words we hear and are able to apply them to our own lives.  This is one of the core strengths of this band’s musical approach – the ability to tell a story while allowing its listeners to experience their own while listening to the song.

“Ahead Of Our Time” combines elements of traditional and modern country music while telling the nostalgic, bittersweet story of a young love that didn’t last due to circumstances that were out of their control and was seemingly simply not meant to be.  The melody is smooth and inviting, while Barker’s vocals are as strong, confident, and clear as always.

“Ahead Of Our Time” follows previous releases “Champagne”, “On The Water”, and “Meet Your Mama”, all of which are included on the new EP, which represents the next step in the group’s accomplished career.

“This project tells the story of who we are, where we’ve been, and where we’re headed in our next chapter,” frontman James Barker said.  “As creators, we’ve experienced these songs ahead of their formal release, but the only part that matters is when it’s in the hands of our fans who can make it their own.”
