While they may be a new name on the country music scene to some fans, the James Barker Band has been a hit-making mainstay in their homeland of Cananda since 2017, churning out multiple Gold-certified and Platinum-certified No. 1 songs with no signs of slowing down. 

The four-piece act is set to release their highly-anticipated label debut EP, ‘Ahead of Our Time.’  The six-track set is scheduled to drop on October 20, 2023 via RECORDS Nashville, and they have just released a brand-new tune off the forthcoming album.

“Champagne,” written by lead singer James Barker along with Rodney Clawson and Travis Wood, is a heartbreak anthem to its core.  The steady beats and somber rhythmic guitar hooks accompanying the cleverly crafted lyrics sung through Barker’s strong, clear vocal bravado will immediately capture the listener’s attention.  The poetic approach to the lyrics is something that fans have come to know and love about this band, and they continue that trend with telling a story in a way that not many others can do. 

“I bet you’re thinking I’m real hurt

But I dusted off an old pickup line

It turns out it still works

Now I’m lost in a conversation with a ten

In a Tennessee t-shirt

And she wants to celebrate

So we’re sitting here sipping whiskey

Like it’s champagne”

For a band who has been selling out gigs across their native Canada as well as in the United States over the years, while consistently releasing new music to the masses, the upcoming EP represents the next step in the group’s accomplished career.

“This project tells the story of who we are, where we’ve been, and where we’re headed in our next chapter,” Barker shared.  “As creators, we’ve experienced these songs ahead of their formal release, but the only part that matters is when it’s in the hands of our fans who can make it their own.”

With a new label home and a new EP on the horizon, JBB is expected to take their already-impressive career to the next level.  With a whopping 277 million global career streams to date and five Canadian No. 1 hits already, the ceiling for this incredible gifted group of musicians continues to rise.  ‘Ahead Of Our Time,’ which also features the fan favorite party anthem “On The Water (featuring Dalton Dover)” as well as their label debut single, “Meet Your Mama,” is easily one of the most anticipated releases this fall.
