Michael Ray is continuing to build on what is quickly becoming the most prominent year of his country music career with the release of a brand-new single with a very special guest.  “Spirits & Demons”, featuring Meghan Patrick, is available digitally and on all streaming platforms now via Warner Music Nashville.

From its core, “Spirts & Demons” is a broken-hearted power ballad about love lost and the struggles associated with navigating through one’s thoughts, feelings and emotions.  From the metaphorically poetic opening line, “I thought goodbyes, smoky dives and barstools would all go together” to the hazily depressing final line before breaking into the chorus, “But gettin’ over you drunk is the only thing about us lastin’ forever,” this is a tale of emotional tragedy from start to finish.

Written by Alexander Palmer, Allison Veltz Cruz and Michael Tyler, the Michael Knox-produced track depicts a vividly somber account of the emotional-toil that can result in the aftermath of a relationship’s ending.

“Spirits and demons won’t bring no healin’

Ain’t no miracle at the bottom of the bottle I’m drinkin’

It’s just a buzz on a broken heart barley beatin’

Gas on a fire mix it with whiskey and you leavin’

Spirits and demons”

Ray shows off his impressive vocal power and range, something that is often undermined by his on-stage presence and delivery of up-beat catchy modern country melodies.  This guy can sing, and the passion and intensity with which he delivers these lyrics is matched only by his vocal companion, Meghan Patrick.

“We went through so many thoughts and names; they were all great, but nobody felt quite right,” Ray said.  “Not only do I have the woman, who like so many things on this record, is exactly what I heard in my mind, but I’ve got someone who’s actually one of my friends.  To be able to sing with her, that’s awesome.”

“Spirits & Demons” follows “Get Her Back” and “Workin’ On It” as previous tunes off Ray’s EP ‘Dive Bars & Broken Hearts,’ released in June.  The six-song collection served as Michael’s first new music since his ‘Higher Education’ EP from 2021.  To date, he has charted four No. 1 singles and has surpassed the 1 billion mark in global streams and 150 million views on YouTube.  And while he has amassed hit singles including “Think A Little Less,” “Kiss You In The Morning,” and “One That Got Away,” among others, the momentum behind this latest release is projecting him onto another level of the country music spectrum, both now and for years to come.

Ray has been touring relentlessly in support of ‘Dive Bars & Broken Hearts’ throughout the summer, with festival appearances and headlining dates scheduled from now into mid-October from Ohio to Florida to California, and everywhere in between.
