As country music continues to expand and welcome outside genres into their fold, there’s a natural shift occurring within the freshest material being released that sees those lines intriguingly blurring to tip toe several different sounds and styles while meshing under one modern country umbrella.

Caleb Seth certainly fits that distinction as he’s already shown us on his first two singles “West Tennessee” and “Ride,” bending R&B flavors into a soulful kissed country fusion to create a unique twist of familiarity into an overall feel that begs to be called his own.

He now returns with his third release in as many months, “Slow.”

The song, written by David J and Dylan Brady, highlights the idea that time is the ultimate healer for letting your broken hearted guard down to allow the right person to come in close enough to love you, while the drive wrapped into the pacing of the melody infectiously encompasses the emotional touch of the lyric which sees Caleb wanting to jump right in, but needing to be patient with her as she sorts out her feelings.

He fully confesses in the opening verse of where his heart is, lamenting that “when you know you know and I know it,” bringing him to the question that then sets everything in motion when he understandingly recognizes that she has walls around her heart, but yearningly asks “what’s it gonna take for them to fall” as he punches the chorus with her heartfelt answer:

“She said take my time, take all my plans

Take the long way home

And when you take my hand

No, don’t you let it go

Before you take this thing too far

Take it easy I’ve got scars

Baby if I let you take my heart

Take it slow, take it slow”

The truth about love is that when your heart is 100% in it, being patient like she’s asking him to be comes easily. That’s exactly what Caleb demonstrates as the song progresses and he reassures her that he’ll be as patient with her as she needs him to be because breaking her heart is the last thing he wants to do.

By not ever really saying what has her heart so broken, there’s space left within the lyric for the female listener to insert their own stories for the walls they’ve built in their lives, giving this a strong connectibility factor as Caleb skillfully utilizes the soft tones of his voice to provide them with the patient okay to slowly take them down brick by brick and let the right someone in.
