Memorably catchy releases, “Your Mom” and “Goodwill Hunting,” saw budding singer-songwriting Bella Hudson laying a solid foundation to stand on throughout 2022. However, she’s now taking a major step forward with her first release of 2023, “Bettin’ On A Stetson,” showcasing not only her tremendous abilities as a songwriter and vocalist, but delivering what could be the catalyst to breaking her through to next level success.

With softer tonality wrapped within her vocal prowess, she weaves through descriptions of the men who’ve let her down and broke her heart in the past, cleverly remembering them by the different types of hats that they’ve worn:

“I’ve been let down by a ball cap”

“Treated like trash by a trucker cap”

“Backwards bass pro broke my heart it two”

However, rather than moving this lyric into the tired idea of getting even or being scorned like so many other songs seem to be doing these days, Hudson intriguingly swerves away from staying stuck on the bad experiences to instead hold them as life lessons which have steered her in the right direction to knowing exactly what type of man – and hat – she’s now looking for as she slides into the western kissed edge of the chorus and places her money on a cowboy:

“I’m bettin’ on a Stetson

I’m waiting on a cowboy to take me away

Saddle up with a Texan

Little Levi love that’ll never fade

He’ll get me Colorado high

Forever kinda sunset ride

I’m bettin’ on a Stetson

I’m waiting on a cowboy

Cowboy to take me away”

Utilizing both the second verse and the bridge later in the song, in daydreaming like fashion she runs through a list of the values and attributes that her cowboy will carry including loyalty, honor and respect, and a good head on his shoulders underneath that hat.

With her modern country stylings fusing with an embedded Texas flare, “Bettin’ On A Stetson” perfectly fits the overall aura of who Hudson is all around, allowing her to highlight her crisp voice while using it in all the perfect ways to radiate a smile through the chorus within her irresistible eureka moment while pulling the listener into each of missteps that paved the way to finding it one hat at a time.
