Cash Creek, and their CCB Nashville record label, have been consistently releasing solid music from their incredibly talented roster of artists as part of their #newmusicfriday initiative since the beginning of the year. However, Cash Creek themselves may have just delivered the strongest effort of the first quarter with “January.”

Written by Jeffrey Steele, Chris Lucas, and Preston Brust (the two latter of LOCASH), the powerful ballad tugs on heartstrings, packs an emotional gut punch, and perfectly encapsulates the emotions that come with losing a loved one and trying to cope with it.

The piano and violin laced instrumentation injects the somber tone necessary to uphold the strong lyrics, but it’s Kimo Forrest’s passionately heartfelt delivery of them that turns this song into the masterpiece that it is.

There’s a cold that hits this time of year,” begins Forrest, before then continuing to unravel how nothing that he tries can cure the chill that comes with missing his loved one whenever January comes around.

During the last line of each verse, the melody intriguingly pushes into a build that completely captures the all-around confusion as he confesses that he’s truly trying his best, while also admitting that he’s having trouble moving on:

“I’ve tried my best to keep this smile on my face everyday”

“These long 31 days are the hardest of my life”

The chorus masterfully asks a series of questions, but does it in such a way that it feels more like he’s asking if it’s alright for him to be feeling this way:

Have you ever hurt so bad, you can’t feel  thing

Have you ever cried so hard, You can’t even breathe

Have you ever lost someone so close, You just can’t move on”

The true power of the song, though, comes in the final chorus as the entire idea twists into something truly special when he inserts a line that tells anyone who’s feeling this way to reach out and call him, signaling that you’re not only not alone in your battle, but that you have someone to lean on to help you make it through it.

From top to bottom, this is the type of song that defines country music and why people love it! It not only blends the perfect instrumentation into its melody to uphold the lyrical pull, but it hits on all the right emotions before humbly reaching out to anyone who struggles with a similar battle; giving it the strong connection factor to resonate with listeners as it wraps caring arms around them and reaches into their hearts.
