Since his debut album in 2011, David Adam Byrnes has made a tremendous mark on the Texas country scene with his more traditional influenced music and incredible drive and perseverance.

Fast-Forward nearly a decade, and David Adam Byrnes is celebrating four straight #1 singles from his latest album Neon Town: “Beer Bucket List,” “I Can Give You One,” “Neon Town,” and “Old School.”

While each of those 4 songs did absolutely give us the different aspects of what Neon Town as an album brought to the table, “Signs,” the fifth and final single released from the album, is a beautifully blended showcase of everything that Byrnes is about as an artist: tug at your heart lyrics, a voice that conveys the story with strong conviction, and a perfectly written soft melody that upholds all the feelings that this song needs.

Byrnes visually sings through a list of all the signs and billboards that you’ll frequently see while travelling – “signs that tell you stop,” “signs that say slow down,” “signs that tell you it’s a dead end road,” “signs with a Bible verse,” etc.

However, it’s the one sign that they don’t make that becomes the one that sets the heartstring depth of this song in motion; “they don’t make a sign with a flashing light, that tells you you’re losing her.”

This is the line that hooks you into the chorus out of the first verse, as Byrnes then takes you on a journey of what that sign should look like; “they oughta make a sign of a girl with a tear in her eye, luggage in her hand waving goodbye.”

The crafty writing, although it does lend you towards knowing he is singing about himself throughout the whole song, that fact doesn’t truly get revealed until the bridge when Byrnes sings the lines, “like the one she tried to give me the night before she left, that I shoulda seen all along.”

David Adam Byrnes is no stranger to the Texas country music scene, and it’s because of songs like “Signs” that he makes such a tremendous impact with each single he releases. “Signs” does everything right as it hits your heart with a bold reminder that we need to pay attention to the good ones that are right in front of us, before it’s too late.
