With her induction into CMT’s Next Women of Country’s 2020 class, emerging country artist Abbey Cone quickly started to turn industry heads toward her and her music. However, with the release of her debut single “Rhinestone Ring,” Cone now stands at the starting line to creating a buzz amongst the listeners - the country music faithful who will be a catalyst to opening her next chapter.

The song, put together by Cone, Heather Morgan, and Nathan Spicer, provides an outstanding look at all the signatures that make up who Abbey Cone is as an artist and songwriter; her crisp vocals stand in the forefront over a soft, pop laden infused modern country melody, her lyric writing abilities shine in the spotlight, and she expertly leaves the right amount of vagueness in the story she’s telling so that it allows you to connect your own with hers.

Every little girl has dreams of a fairy tale wedding when they meet that perfect someone, right?

On one hand, that’s exactly what this song is about as Cone spells out what she wanted when she was a little girl throughout the opening verse, from the white dress and veil to a string of pearls and the old wedding adage of “something borrowed, something blue, something old, something new.”

However, with the perspective changed to the here and now, those childhood dreams don’t look quite the same from her adult outlook.

“But that all changed when I met you” rolls us out of the opening verse, allowing her to then use the chorus to unravel a picture of what their wedding could look like instead of the fairytale dream, because all that matters is that they are there with each other and coming together as one:

“Don’t need no church, just a barstool aisle.”

“Having our first dance to a jukebox choir.”

“Baby, I don’t care, Wear your old blue jeans.”

“I’d marry you right now with a rhinestone ring.”

As much as this idea feels geared toward the female demographic, what Cone has done amazingly well with this song is give the guys out there some hope that a simple, no stress wedding is still something on the table when you meet the right one.

This is a solid debut effort from a promising new artist, and one that will certainly be able to garner some substantial buzz for Abbey Cone right out of the gate.
