With his debut single “This Is Me,” newcomer Tyler Short was able to achieve several necessary things toward getting people to pay attention to him and his music. The song perfectly introduced his modern kissed 90’s country influenced sound, while also inviting listeners to know exactly who he is (and not just as an artist).

Now that he’s accomplished the lofty goal of creating an initial buzz, Short returns with his new single “Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet.”

The song, co-written by Short, Eric Keyes and Tony Gentile, continues to lean into his crisp signature sound by utilizing classic country instrumentation against his modern era feel to give him a decisively unique touch that pulls heavily from the past, but not so much that this is out of balance with the here and now.

The lyric focus is mostly on the small steps that one takes when trying to get a potential relationship started, as we hear when he sings us through lines that paint pictures of it budding: “Wasting no time laying that first kiss on you,” “Holding my hand, Our first dance,” etc.

However, there’s also an obvious wall that’s been put up on the other end as we hear on lines such as “If you could open up your heart girl, this is just a start” and “You know I’m here to stay, I can love you through the pain.”

Though the story never truly resolves itself in that it doesn’t specifically say whether they got together or not, this is clearly more about uncovering the feelings that one experiences during the chase as they try to break through.

This is a very interesting follow-up from Short. While in some ways this moves away from the autobiographical type of lyric that we first experienced from him, by singing boldly about who he is in the chorus (when it comes to relationships in this case), he’s also very intriguingly continuing to draw us in while further stamping home an introduction to who he is - artist and otherwise.
