SMITHFIELD - Heaven Has a Grand Ole Opry - Independent Release

Since earning a standing ovation during their Grand Ole Opry debut in 2016, SmithField (Trey Smith and Jenn Fielder) has diligently built a following one grassroot fan at a time through an uber impressive catalog that includes “Hey Whiskey,” “We’ll Figure It Out,” “If It Ain’t You,” “Something Sexy,” and “I’ll Never Stop.”

Today, the duo releases their brand-new single “Heaven Has a Grand Ole Opry,” honoring country music’s most iconic stage while nostalgically paying homage to the larger-than-life legends who paved the way.

“The Grand Ole Opry is the most special stage we have ever played, and we’ve been lucky enough to play it over 40 times,” said SmithField, adding, “It gave us our start in Music City, and magical things have happened ever since we first graced that stage. We wanted to honor the past greats that stepped into the circle before us during their 100th Anniversary celebration. The Opry is the beating heart of country music.”

Draped in a traditional aura within its instrumentation that radiates the signatures that make SmithField so dynamic amongst today’s modern era, the opening verse swaps back and forth in masterful highlights of the individuality of each vocalist as they wax nostalgic over the legendary moments they never got to witness firsthand but wish they had; namechecking Hank Williams, George and Tammy, Minnie Pearl, Merle, etc.

While the uniqueness of each respective vocalist carries the ebbs and flows of the verses, the duo soars their distinct harmonies into the chorus as they sing through a prayer-like wish while looking up at the grand ole stage in the sky:

“I hope heaven has a Grand Ole Opry

Where the cowboys and the angels go

Cause if heaven has a Grand Ole Opry

I bet it's one hell of a show”

Utilizing the second half to imagine what it must be like with mentions of Johnny making eyes at June and Patsy bringing everyone to tears, it’s the subtlety of one very well placed line that not only encompasses the essence of what made (and still makes) the Grand Ole Opry what it is today, but etches the family picture that supportively surrounds the country music genre and the dreamers that take the leap of faith and go for it; “And they still let a few singers up that never got the chance.”

Respect. Honor. Humbleness.

Three words that blend the overall feel of “Heaven Has A Grand Ole Opry.”

Heart! The one very strong word that describes SmithField’s endearing love of the famous circle at center stage and the legendary artists who once placed their boots in it while opening the doors for SmithField and generation next to have a firm foundation to place theirs on today.
