CALLIE MCCULOUGH FT. ROBBY HECHT - Out of The Blue - Independent Release

Waiting on what's yet to be has always left me wandering around here like a tourist with no map,” Callie McCullough poetically sings during the bridge of her brand-new single, “Out of the Blue,” providing a depth-filled anchor in the midst of a lonely and empty heart seeking to fill an unexplainable void.

Penned by Callie, Elliott Blaufuss, and Davis Corley during the 2020 Covid era when we were all trapped inside with our own anxieties, McCullough continues to open her thought-provoking next chapter with a song that embraces the familiarity of her past while trying to find the footing that steps toward her future.

As she’s recently highlighted on “Great Big Sky” and “Test of Time,” her roots branded country inspired sound expertly crafts folk sensibilities into an intriguing blend of storytelling, heart, and layers of snapshot nostalgia that become the directional road map to follow.

Led by a piano-induced melody that softly paces the flow of the song, the instrumental glide allows the natural innocence of McCullough’s quizzical tones to capture the full essence of the lyrics, holding tightly to her wandering spirit with determination that an inspiration from the past will reignite her spark in the here and now.

I figure if I come here often a stroke of luck is gonna come” she tallies on the opening line of the song, utilizing then each of the verses to travel the listener on a picturesque walk through her hometown square as she steadily unveils more and more of her yearning heart while leaning on the stability of the hometown healing that she once knew so well.

Not really knowing what, if anything, she may find within the atmosphere of her familiar surroundings other than perhaps comforting for her restless soul, she confesses in the chorus:

“I don't know what I came here for

It's just what the lonely do

I don't know what I'm looking for

At least it's a different view

Chasing what I'm missing

Something that'll hit me

Out of the blue”

“Out of the Blue” is a masterpiece drafted understanding shoulder for the lost, the weary, the lonely, and the tired, optimistically striking encouraging hope for those who are holding on by a thread by reminding us that sometimes to step forward we might first have to take a step back.
