CARTER FAITH - If I Had Never Lost My Mind... - Capitol Records Nashville

When Carter Faith released The Aftermath via Capitol Records Nashville in late 2024, it not only marked her major label debut but earned her designation as an artist to watch as the new year dawned upon us, etching the next accolade on a resume that already included 117 million global streams, 12 appearances in the famed circle of the Grand Ole Opry, and a pinch-me opportunity to share the stage with Willie Nelson.

The songstress now steps into what stands to be a tremendous 2025, giving us the first look at what we can expect from her in this dynamic next chapter with the captivating and very vulnerable “If I Had Never Lost My Mind…”

“This song is about the stories we tell ourselves in times of messiness,” says Faith of the song. “Whether it’s love lost or not, I can drive myself crazy remembering the pain and ruminating on the ‘what-if’s This song grieves what would have happened ‘If I Had Never Lost My Mind…’”

Written by Carter, Lauren Hungate, Jen Stegall, and Tofer Brown, Faith maturely faces her own mirror, her own fault in ruining a good thing as her naturally angelic tones slide alongside a waver that hints the breaking point of tears as she imagines what life could have been like if she hadn’t pushed him away.

Balancing the softness of the melancholy glide, the subtle lifts of the instrumental flow throughout the song allow Faith’s incredibly powerful voice to strike proper emotional soars that match the lyrical outcry in the moments where her inner pain becomes too overwhelming.

Using each of the verses, she simultaneously enhances the torture of her fractured vision of a front porch future together with the stirring admission of guilt that she aims at how life really is since she told him to pack his bags and get out.

Remorsefully stamping confession through a pure inner frustration, “I gave you my heart and I forced you to break it,” she becomes diligently aware of her mental health breakdown in the aftermath regrets as she riddles the chorus with self-deprecating blame while facing the mirror.

“If I was a girl who wasn't deranged
A little more stable, a little less strange
If I, if only I
Could settle the chemicals running my brain
I could be happy and you would've stayed
If I had never lost my mind”

We’ve all carried these self-reflective moments in heartbreak aftermath that continually tear our heartstrings and keeps us stuck between love and hate, giving “If I Had Never Lost My Mind…” a relatability factor that connects through the speakers with anyone who has played the game of love and lost while offering a comforting shoulder to lean on as their self-destructive demons wage internal war.
