2020 was such a conflicting year for so many; especially those in the music industry. Artists were forced off the road, and while some of them made the best of their situations with livestreams to connect with the fans, others took the time to work on their craft, elevate their music, and deliver powerful songs that helped set in motion their next career moves as they further defined who they were as songwriters and artists.

One such singer-songwriter is Lauren Davidson.

Over the course of the past year, Davidson has been able to show us 4 vastly different styles of her arsenal; whether it was a built for modern country radio pop laden sound on “Silver Linings,” a singer-songwriter feel on “Live In The Light,” a rock-tilted edge on “Thinking About You,” or a perfect blend of all three on “Backfire.”

However, while Davidson managed to fluidly move between different styles, she smartly retained the unique flare of all the specific signatures that are defining who she is as an artist with each offering - her storytelling, her incredibly solid vocals, and her ability to be the glue that holds a song together regardless of tempo or style.

With her upcoming EP Hindsight is 2020 releasing just around the corner, she now gives us another tease of what to expect from it with her new single “A Little Love.”

The song focuses on the emotions that come in the aftermath of a breakup, however, it’s Davidson’s crafty way of songwriting that makes these lyrics stand out and get more deeply personal then what we’ve heard from other songs with a similar story.

For example, she mentions very specific dates in the opening verse when she sings of the last time that she played a show being the third week of March and April 4th being the day they broke up. She then weaves us through the many up and down emotions that attach themselves to a broken heart:  how everything unexpectedly changes all at once, the loneliness you feel even when you’re in a busy city, and how it’s like a ghost that’s haunting you when you think you see them around town.

Davidson’s vocals are packed with raw, heart-tugging emotion as she delivers the punch of the chorus with it’s poetic hook, “a little love can break your heart.”

Lauren Davidson has managed to deliver songs, such as “A Little Love, that side-step the whole “Nashville” type of country sound, while still incorporating just enough touches of it so that she perks your ears as she pulls you into a city/country blend that she can proudly call her own.
