Chris Young is one of country music’s most consistent male artists. With “Raised on Country,” “Drowning,” and his most recent #1 song “Famous Friends” leading the way, Young recently released his highly anticipated 8th studio album (if including his Christmas release) Famous Friends to very high marks.

He now returns to radio with his brand-new single “At the End of a Bar,” a duet with his Sony Nashville labelmate Mitchell Tenpenny.

Though songs about what you can discover while having drinks at your local watering hole have been done several times over in country music, Young manages to find a unique way to twist this and pull you into it while also making it very relatable to your favorite local hangout.

Backed by simple acoustic instrumentation, which also returns at the end of the song, Young sings us through the opening verse where he begins his list of what you might find while at the bar: your future, your past, a best friend who’s name you never know, etc.

However, it’s when the song punches into the chorus with a fist pump that Young sings the one line that sums up the entire message of the song – “there’s a million things that you can find!”

The list continues through the chorus as he sings of finding everything from a conversation to a party crowd on Friday night, long necks, neon signs, your true love or next broken heart.

In a nice nod to the 90’s country that inspired both Tenpenny and Young, Mitchell Tenpenny pays homage to the legendary Tracy Lawrence in the second verse when he namechecks his most famous song, singing the line “become a brand-new man to “Time Marches On”” when referencing hearing a cover band playing 90’s songs at the bar.

I personally was privileged to be on hand when the music video for this song was being shot, and I can tell you first-hand that this is a song that will have you singing along with it after only hearing it a time or two, but it’s also one that is clearly built for crowd participation during a live performance.

I expect “At tHe End of a Bar” to be a big moment while Young is out on his current tour, and as the song resonates with fans in front of the stage night after night, it will quickly be making its impact on the radio dial as well and should notch Chris Young his next #1 song.
