NOAH THOMPSON - Here Lately - Independent Release
With each next layer revealed through his singles in 2024, “Upbringing,” “American Dream,” and “Demons in My Whiskey,” season 20 American Idol winner Noah Thompson offered intriguing glimpses of his anticipated next chapter, fitting together pieces of vulnerability, authenticity, and emotional drives that have formed a strong heart connection with the listener.
He now kicks off the new year with his brand-new single, “Here Lately.”
Written by Thompson, Nick Columbia, and Lukas Scott, the melodic glide immediately softens a hold on your heart as Noah turns the pages of his diary, allowing the raw vulnerability of his voice to edge the emotional tussle between where he was versus where he is, staring at the overall prospect of the amazing place that life is heading from this current moment.
Facing the mirror to initially confess his flaws, he admits through a prayer like crying out to being lost and using vices (specifically alcohol) to try and find his way through the trenches of life when the weight of the world has taken its toll.
However, peripheral catches of glimmering light are craftily weaved into simple, redemptive moments, the times that he’s poured out the drink or slowed down enough to understand the purpose in his life’s redirection, offering a perspective shift that sees him moving out of remorseful and into the self-confident reflection of overcoming those tougher moments.
Though not lost on Thompson is the faith-filled fact that he didn’t make it to where he is on his own. Trusting God’s flashlight styled faith to take only one step forward leads to a praise-filled chorus that flows not only how far he’s come, but the unconditional love of God to keep trusting forward to an even better tomorrow.
“I’ve been breathing
Hell, I still have sleepless nights
But I’ve been thinking that it’s gonna be alright
I was almost too far gone
Good Lords bringing me back home
Where these eye can cut through all the crazy
So I’ve been here lately”
Building a crescendo in the bridge to when he fully sees the light of hope, “I finally feel like things been looking up,” Noah leaves the listener gripping tightly to the idea that life is made up of overcoming one step at a time and not trying to do it all at once or by yourself, providing a poignant inspirational word to the struggled listener that encourages them to trust taking the first step toward their own moment of redemption.
