RUNAWAY JUNE - He Ain't My Problem - Quartz Hill Records
Solidifying their early catalog with breakout sensations “Buy Your Own Drinks” and Lipstick,” 2024 has seen Runaway June continue building upon their foundations with strong releases that have elevated the definitions as to who they are in their most current chapter, shining a spotlight on crisp harmonies, addictive melodies, and songs that beg to be played on repeat.
Following this past September’s “New Kind of Emotion,” they now add an exclamation point on a what has already been a banner year.
“He Ain’t My Problem” is available on all streaming and digital platforms.
Written by the trio’s Jennifer Wayne, Natalie Stovall and Stevie Woodward, the song is already earning a reputation as a fan favorite during their live shows, anchoring a memorable moment that entices a rousing sing-along while inducing a spirited connection between them and the crowd.
Outlined in ultra-catchy vibes that accent the sassy tone of the moving on lyric, the breakup anthem weaves its verses with a checklist that embraces the initial hurt in the admission of maybe drinking a little too much wine each night and still having to cope with sleeping alone, but it also glides the edges of self-healing methods to land at a chorus that presents a goodbye send off to the past.
“Yeah I ain’t got no money
Ain’t got no honey
He left me crying there on the floor
And then I hit rock bottom
Still got some problems but
He ain’t my problem no more”
With a melodical build that matches against the full embrace of what she’s able to leave behind thanks to him saying goodbye – his cheating and lying, their drunken fights, etc. - an intriguing redemptive moment filters the final chorus as it flips the lyric to see her now getting back up off the floor and dusting herself off in what paints a vivid picture of the freedom that comes with done and over it and moving on.
Though choosing interesting timing on its release date of Black Friday as everyone else is seemingly winding down to the end of the year with their eyes peeled backward on what they’ve already accomplished, Runaway June has instead struck a look of their right here, right now, uniquely forging another step deeper into their current chapter while expertly perking your ears for what’s still to come.
